More than just Theatre
Welcome! The Theatre Festival Schwindelfrei presents the independent performance arts in all of its diversity. We are inviting you to a program filled with dance, performance, theatre, film, music, parties and much more.
The 8th edition of the Schwindelfrei festival will provide a space for artistic experimentation. The focus here is on the courage to take risks, to be willing to fail, along with being continually ready to try something new. We have invited four residency groups from the Rhine-Neckar region to do just that. They are able to focus on their artistic process on a project of their own choosing without being under pressure to succeed. During the festival, these groups will allow the public to take a look at their work processes in scheduled showings.
For the first time, we will also show this year what can come out of a residency project. With RE-COVER from INTER-ACTIONS and LAUTSPRECHER*INNEN from Anso Dautz und Tala Al-Deen, we are presenting two performances that have emerged out of the Theatre Festival Schwindelfrei 2020 residency program.
In addition, we have also included two premiers in this year’s program, namely the performance of SCHWESTERSTAAT by the collective RAMPIG and the German premiere of HANG OUT which was especially developed for Mannheim by Eliška Brtnická.
Our program will be rounded off with films, discussions, exhibitions, bands and even a party. The festival centre is located in front of the EinTanzHaus. There you will find a place to get your bearings, to contemplate, to listen and discuss – to just drop by or to immerse yourself.

Theaterfestival Schwindelfrei
Every two years, the Cultural Office of the City of Mannheim (Kulturamt) presents current artistic approaches and forms of expression arising out of the regional independent art scene in its theatre festival Schwindelfrei.
The Theaterfestival Schwindelfrei is conceived of as a meeting point and platform for independent performing artists in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The Festival makes spaces available for experimental formations, initiates exchange between the local and regional scenes, seeks contact with the neighbourhood and to the public in Mannheim. The Festival has been organized by the Cultural Office of the City of Mannheim since 2009 and is taking place for the 8th time in 2022.
